1284–1290: Construction as an outer bailey of Sterrenberg Castle by Albrecht of Löwenstein, the eldest son of the German-Roman King Rudolf I of Habsburg, and his wife Luitgard, née von Bolanden.
1295 Pledging and change of lordship to the knights Siegfried Schenk von Sterrenberg and Ludwig von Sterrenberg, who then renamed themselves “von Liebenstein.”
14th century: Construction of the large shield wall: reason for the legend of the hostile brothers on Sterrenberg and Liebenstein castles.
